How Much Does a Website Cost in 2026? Real Numbers

The price of a website is the cost of the working days needed to design it, build it and fill it, plus recurring fees for a domain name, hosting and maintenance. In France, the median across 1,312 real project budgets reported by 175 agencies was 5,200 EUR in early July 2026, with a common range of 3,000 to 15,000 EUR.

This guide explains where that spread comes from, line by line, and how to read a quote without getting burned.

What a website actually costs

The most solid benchmark available today comes from La Fabrique du Net, with data closed in early July 2026. It covers 1,312 real project budgets reported by 175 listed agencies. The median sits at 5,200 EUR, within a common range of 3,000 to 15,000 EUR.

By project type, the medians break down like this: 3,500 EUR for a brochure site, 10,000 EUR for e-commerce, 18,000 EUR for custom development.

By technology, the gap is similar.

TechnologyMedian budgetWhat it usually covers
Wix2,500 EURSimple brochure sites built on a website builder
WordPress5,000 EURBrochure sites and blogs, often plugin driven
Webflow6,500 EURBrand sites and custom acquisition sites
Shopify15,000 EURStandard e-commerce
Custom development18,000 EURBusiness applications and client portals
PrestaShop20,000 EURE-commerce with specific requirements

Medians recorded by La Fabrique du Net across 1,312 real project budgets reported by 175 agencies, data closed in early July 2026.

Two warnings before you use these figures. They are medians, not averages: half of all projects cost less, half cost more. And the same publisher's dedicated e-commerce barometer, built on 402 budgets, puts the e-commerce median much higher, at 15,000 EUR. Depending on scope, the same word covers very different projects.

Why two quotes for the same site differ threefold

A website has no catalogue price because it has no fixed content. What you buy is working days. The maths is almost always the same: a number of days multiplied by a daily rate.

The Malt 2026 benchmark gives the order of magnitude for freelance rates in France. Development: 317 EUR on average with 0 to 2 years of experience, 435 EUR with 3 to 7 years, 576 EUR with 8 to 15 years, 671 EUR beyond that. SEO: 281 EUR, 363 EUR, 497 EUR and 591 EUR across the same brackets.

Run the numbers. A five page site delivered in eight days by an experienced profile lands around 3,500 EUR. The same site with custom design, animations, fifteen written pages and a redirect migration takes twenty five to thirty days. You reach 12,000 EUR without either quote being dishonest.

The useful question is not what a website costs, but how many days it takes, and from whom.

Budget by project type

The brochure site

Five to ten pages, a form, no catalogue. It is the most common format and the worst named, because it covers both an online business card and a genuine acquisition tool.

The word also covers very different design choices at a comparable budget. Three brochure sites we designed, in three registers that have nothing in common.

Causélis website homepage, a service that points you to the right lawyer, with the headline On connaît un avocat pour vous and a watercolour illustration of a courthouse
Causélis: a clear editorial register and custom illustration, for a subject where reassurance matters more than effect.
Garden Reclaimer website homepage on a dark background, with a photo of a device sitting in grass and the headline Passez à l'action, réservez votre essai locatif
Garden Reclaimer: dark background and product photography, the whole page leads to the rental trial. The detail is in the Garden Reclaimer case study.
la combine website homepage, a motion design studio, black background and neon green accent, with the headline Le motion design que votre marque mérite
la combine: high contrast and a neon accent, a deliberate stance for a motion design studio.

The brand or acquisition site

Here the site has to produce inbound demand. The budget rises because the work shifts towards content strategy, landing pages and performance tracking. That is the territory of a Webflow agency rather than a fixed price supplier. For Qobra, a SaaS vendor, work on landing pages and interactive tools produced three times more leads and sixteen times more organic traffic. The detail is in the Qobra case study.

The e-commerce site

Catalogue, payments, logistics and product feeds change the nature of the project. The barometer puts the e-commerce median between 10,000 and 15,000 EUR depending on scope, with very wide gaps by platform.

Custom builds

Business applications, client portals, ERP connections. This is no longer a website but a product, with an 18,000 EUR median and no real ceiling.

The recurring costs a quote does not always show

The domain name is paid every year. Check the renewal price, not just the first year rate, because the gap is often significant.

Then hosting. On classic shared hosting, OVHcloud starts around 2.99 EUR per month, but TopHeberg reports an average 53% increase at renewal, so the advertised price is not the price paid over three years. We break down the families of offers in our guide to web hosting.

On Webflow, hosting is included in the site plan. Since the May 2026 pricing overhaul, site plans went from four tiers to three: Basic at 15 dollars per month billed annually (25 dollars monthly), Premium at 25 dollars per month billed annually (39 dollars monthly), with Premium including 20,000 CMS items and 40 collections. The former CMS and Business plans were merged into Premium. Our Webflow versus WordPress comparison covers what that changes in practice.

Then maintenance, iterations and, if search visibility matters, ongoing work. A site delivered and then abandoned loses its value within months.

What really drives the bill up

  • Content. A ten page site whose copy has to be written costs more than a twenty page site whose copy already exists.
  • Custom design. Starting from a template and starting from a blank page are not the same number of days.
  • Animations and scroll effects, which are counted in front end development days.
  • Integrations: CRM, billing, booking, member areas.
  • Multilingual, which doubles both integration and content work.
  • Migrating what exists: redirects, URL history, content to move.

How to read a quote

A serious quote shows the number of days or, failing that, the deliverables page by page. It states who writes the content, how many review rounds are included, what happens after launch, and who owns the project once it is paid for.

Three warning signs: a round number with no scope detail, a promise of a Google ranking, and a multi year subscription in which you never own your site.

Redesign rather than build: the maths changes

If the site already exists and brings in traffic, the risk is no longer the budget but the loss of rankings. Redirect work and content preservation then weigh as much as design. Our method is described in the website redesign guide.

Where we stand

Synqro is a Webflow Premium Partner agency based in Paris. We price by scope rather than by disguised package: a number of days, named deliverables, a price that moves if the scope moves. We also say when a project does not justify an agency, because a 3,000 EUR site handed to a firm that bills 15,000 ends badly for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost in 2026?

The median observed in France is 5,200 EUR, with a common range of 3,000 to 15,000 EUR according to the La Fabrique du Net barometer closed in early July 2026. A brochure site sits around 3,500 EUR, an e-commerce site around 10,000 EUR.

Can you build a website for free?

Yes, with an online builder and a free subdomain. You pay in time, technical limits and the absence of your own domain name. That works to test an idea, rarely for an established business.

Why is a freelancer cheaper than an agency?

Because an agency bills several skill sets, a scoping phase, continuity and the capacity to absorb a project that goes off track. An excellent freelancer on a simple scope is often the better economic choice.

What should I budget every year after launch?

At minimum the domain and hosting. Add maintenance and, if the site is meant to bring in customers, a content and search budget. A website is not a one off purchase.

Does a Webflow site cost more than a WordPress site?

To build, the median is higher on Webflow (6,500 EUR) than on WordPress (5,000 EUR). To run, the gap narrows: hosting, security and updates are included in the Webflow plan.

How long does it take to build a website?

The timeline follows the number of days sold and how ready the content is. A simple brochure site ships in a few weeks, a full acquisition site often takes two to three months, with content the main cause of delay.

Should a website be paid in one instalment?

The norm is staged payment: a deposit at kickoff, an instalment when designs are approved, the balance at launch. Be wary of full payment up front.
